This is what you can expect:
• Pronunciation techniques to reduce your accent and sound more native.
• Learn how to properly use idioms, slang, and colloquial language and well as professional and academic English.
• Increased confidence in speaking and listening skills in any situation.
• Lessons are structured to meet YOUR learning needs. Long and short term students are welcome.
• Cultural competencies like small talk, interpersonal communication, and business skills.
If you are planning to study abroad or work with foreigners, you will also have the advantage of cultural competencies like small talk and cultivating personal and professional relationships cross-culturally in English. This is more important that you may think!
“There’s nothing small about the role that small talk plays in American professional culture. People from other countries are often surprised at how important small talk is in the U.S. and how naturally and comfortably people seem to do it — with peers, subordinates, men, women, and even with superiors. You can be the most technically skilled worker in the world, but your ability to progress in your job and move up the corporate ladder in the United States is highly dependent on your ability to build and maintain positive relationships with people at work. And guess what skill is critical for building and maintaining these relationships? Small talk.” –Harvard Business Review
I am currently accepting a limited number of new students. Don’t miss this opportunity to invest in your future!
I am confident that together we can achieve the results you want with your English. I’m looking forward to helping you reach your English language and life goals!
Oh! You want to know more about me?
I was born and raised in a California beach town near Silicon Valley, in the United States. As a child I always dreamed of living abroad and learning languages.
After graduating from UCLA, with a BA in psychology, my father passed away. His passing taught me not to hesitate in pursuing my dreams. So I moved to Mexico to learn Spanish.
I worked as an English professor at the top university in Mexico (UNAM) for five years while at the same time achieving fluency in Spanish through self-study. While I was employed as a university professor, I was approached by parents who were looking for an English tutor for their children, as well as business professionals who were preparing for television appearances, conferences, meetings, etc. I fell in love with tutoring because it allowed me to help students reach their goals more quickly and effectively than in the traditional classroom environment.
When I returned to the US, I worked as an employment counselor and later as a social worker. As a result, I have extensive experience with employment issues, workplace communication skills, resume writing, and job interviewing skills. I really enjoy helping people reach their employment and language goals, as well as personal goals. I have helped many friends and students improve their personal and professional relationships by teaching them psychology and counseling techniques that are simple to use.
I have been learning Mandarin Chinese primarily through immersion and self-study. I also study with Chinese tutors. In addition to Chinese, I am also learning Italian, and a little Tagalog. The list of languages that I’m interested in is endless! I am passionate about language learning and cultural immersion, and I am the author of a blog about immersion language learning. On the blog you will find posts about language learning, as well as my cultural observations.
I resumed tutoring (English and Spanish) one-on-one in 2012, applying my years of experience as both a language teacher and language learner to develop creative learning plans to address the needs of each student. I understand the challenges and needs of language learners first hand. I have also worked in business, website development, manufacturing, social work, counseling, employment recruiting and training, government and nonprofit sectors, sales, and service industry.
I am an artist and my love of art can also be traced back to my childhood. In addition to exhibiting and selling my own artwork, I owned and operated an alternative space art gallery in the United States, curating, marketing, and hosting art events for other artists, as well as promoting and selling their artwork.
I began pursuing my private pilot’s license and have logged over 30 hours flying in a 1940 J5 Piper Cub. Flying is an exhilarating experience and I look forward to completing my pilot training in the future.
Other tidbits about me? I love fashion, animals, hiking, dancing, reading, music, yoga, nature, tea, and travel.
I look forward to working with you!
