This not only varies from course to course, but from student to student as well. An academic ASL class would be taught very differently from say, a business’s ASL class, or a vocational course. In other words, someone who wants to learn ASL to chat with people casually, does not need to learn academic ASL and will most likely not have the motivation, feeling that it is a waste of their time. On the flip side, teaching vocational ASL to someone in an academic or exam-prep course will not go well.
