The teacher explains the lessons very clearly and also prepares his own study materials. You can tell he puts a lot of effort into teaching, and it really helps students understand the language better.

Arisa sensei was very easy to talk to and had a cheerful, positive personality. She reacted well during the conversation which made the lesson feel very natural and enjoyable. As I had a conversational lesson, it was more like chatting with a friend than the typical grammar / vocabulary classes. This lesson provides a relaxed, no-pressure environment for me to practice speaking in. Thank you Arisa sensei!

The chat was very pleasant. We discussed topics related to the cultures of Shanghai and Japan, travel experiences, and food. As a beginner, Asuka showed me a lot of patience and corrected my pronunciation. I highly recommend that everyone choose Asuka as their Japanese language teacher.

I think the teacher has lots of resources to help students, although she has asked several questions that I considered personal and a bit too private, during the trial lesson. Out of this, she is straight-forward and efficient.

持續學習中。I enjoy the lessons much. Riho-sensei teaches very professionally. I have been learning a lot and I can see my progress. The article for this lesson is interesting, it also contains various grammar forms that had been taught in the previous chapters, also some more new grammars. Looking forward to the next lesson.

Even though I made a lot of mistakes, Tomoka 先生 explained and got me to correct the errors, in a light-hearted and stress-free manner. And she's great at steering the conversations in a way that blends in topics of interest to the student + grammar/vocab points. Thank you Tomoka 先生!

Because my resume is not very good to find a job, so teacher let me known about the Japanese's culture, not just teaching Japanese.
And let me known how to adjest the resume, also very patience to listen what I need.

I had a fantastic lesson today with Daito-san. I went with an hour long first lesson, and he was very accommodating. Having studied Japanese a bit before, I was grateful he took the time to try to gauge my ability. If this was my first lesson ever, I am confident his excellent English would have made things easy and stress-free. A wonderful experience overall.

I don't like leaving negative reviews... but sometimes I don't understand how you can teach a language by reading sentences and trying to repeat them without practicing with exercises, more exercises, and not just three sentences of exercises. Six or seven grammar points per lesson... and above all, the constant question, “Do you understand?”... when it's obvious from the student's mistakes that they don't understand. I give one star because I can't give less.

Q3. How do I choose my Japanese tutor?
If you have a clear idea of your criteria for choosing a tutor - such as any specific learning objectives, target cost for tutoring, etc. - you can use the search function to quickly find a tutor who suits your needs, and select “book trial” to set up your first Japanese online lesson.
If you don't have time to find a tutor or aren't sure where to start, we can help with recommendations. Try using our tutor recommendation tool here, which will provide you with tutor matches according to your selected needs.
Q4. What's the right learning environment for me? Should I choose a Japanese tutor who is a native speaker?
One of the best ways to learn Japanese is to immerse yourself in an environment where you try to use only Japanese.
However, if you do not currently have a solid base in spelling and/or vocabulary, we recommend you choose a bilingual tutor who speaks your target language and your native language, as you will likely have a better learning experience during your one-on-one private tutoring.
If you have a good range of vocabulary but lack the opportunity to practice, then we recommend you choose a native Japanese tutor.
Q5. Learn Japanese in the US - how do I find a local or online tutor?
You're in the right place. We have local Japanese tutors serving New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose and most other areas nationwide, as well as numerous tutors based internationally.
Q6. How much will my online Japanese class cost?
All tutoring fees are set by the Japanese tutors themselves, and not by AT. Most of our Japanese tutors charge USD$10-30 per hour.
You can also get matched with suitable Japanese tutors who fit a specific budget. If the tutor’s fees work for you, you can buy a lesson package from them or start with a “trial lesson.”
Q7. How do I pay for my Japanese lessons?
You can pay with PayPal or credit card (American Express, Mastercard, or Visa). For certain international markets (e.g. Taiwan), we also accept local methods of payment, such as payment via ATM or convenience store.
Q8. How many Japanese lessons should I purchase?
If you have a short term goal, we recommend you purchase enough lessons that you can take classes consistently within your timeframe. If you need significant improvement to reach your goal, we recommend you an adequate number of lessons, and get into the habit of regular weekly learning! The more you put in, the more you get out of it!
