The difference between a friend and an acquaintance

A friend is someone who you know, trust and care about. They are someone you can tell your secrets to without judgement. Whereas an acquaintance is a person that you have been introduced to but haven't built a strong friendship with.

Let's see some examples

A friend accepts you for who you are and knows you well.

An acquaintance knows a little bit about you but doesn't hang out with you often.

A friend remembers what you tell them and is there for you when you need them.

An acquaintance forgets what you tell them and treats you differently to their close friends

Can an acquaintance become a friend?
