李麗花Mar 19, 2022 I finished “the cartoon guide to statistics “chapter 2. The contents of this book has 12 chapters. At the beginning , you know, I just read it and did not pay attention to enjoying this nice book. Today , maybe the weather is so nice that I took a look at what I have read for the last two weeks. Suddenly, I recognized that I needed to write something to thank Joe for sharing such a wonderful interesting statistics book. The best is the end of each chapter has a summary of what this chapter is talking about. Chapter 2 mainly focused on “Data Description”. How did you measure a set of data? Well , data description tells you how many ways you can do it. Summing all of the data , and how many observations you have, is the first step. Consequently, you might want to know the “average” of them or you can use “median” to represent the centre of the data. However, some bias might happen when you just use these two ways. Therefore, you need to know how to measure the” spread” to know the distribution of the data. You can use interquartile range(IQR) to measure a spread. You just need to know Q1 and Q3. Supersingly, the book uses a simple way to guide you on how to measure Q1 and Q3. The following step shows you the standard measure of spread is the standard deviation( SD) and “variance”. I just made a clear distinction between z- scores and standard deviation after finishing chapter 2. The end of chapter reminds me of what I have learned so far. Thanks Joe for sharing such an interesting book. ![udlfly.png?1655057354]()
