Hello! My name is Melissa, and I’m from the United States. I have been a teacher for twenty years. I enjoy meeting new people and experiencing new cultures. Speaking with people who want to improve their English is one of my favorite things to do. I enjoy real-world conversational and situational English. I have a Bachelor’s and TESOL certificate, but don’t let that fool you. I’m a “real” person and have many interests that we can discuss! My teaching style is fun and interactive! I really like to teach English that is interesting to YOU and your goals. We will focus on your goals while discussing the things that interest you. Some examples include small talk, grammar, listening skills, idioms, or even jokes. Why should you spend your time with me? You are not just “another student” to me. As we work together to build your English competency, we will get to know each other more, making the lessons seem like they are about your life. I use supplementary materials and resources outside of our normal lessons. Some examples include Youtube, WeChat, and homework about current events. Audio/Video Policy: I prefer video classes but am open to “audio only” calls. Your body language and facial expressions are important indicators of whether or not you understand the material we are discussing. However, I understand busy schedules and am willing to accommodate your busy life. The curriculum is designed to meet each student's personal needs and may include, but is not limited to: Decoding Skills Pronunciation Reading Fluency Reading Comprehension Vocabulary Conversational English Academic English Figurative Language Grammar Writing My goal is to help my students achieve their goals in an engaging and constructive atmosphere. Students will receive individualized lessons and homework (if desired).
