My name is Luden. I'm a Taiwanese, sure enough, a Mandarin native speaker. I’m a mandarin teacher slash graphic Designer. I like interacting with people from different cultures and I want to share the beauty of Taiwan‘s culture and language with others. besides teaching, I also love to discover a new thing, especially related to design, travel, food, art, technology, and health.
Before we start, let me just quickly introduce Mandarin. I’ve known that Mandarin is one of the hardest languages all over the world. because of Tones, I think Mandarin tones is quite confusing for a beginner. For example 買、賣refer to buy and sell, so if you use the wrong tones, the meaning is totally different. Beside from that is Chinese Characters, it is a complicated picture for a foreigner, but actually, it was set up by a strict system, So if you follow the rule, you would figure out what’s going on and love it.
But not all the thing related to Mandarin is difficult, it isn’t as hard as you think. I have four reasons to explain it.
Firstly, No tenses, Mandarin doesn’t have tenses like Western languages, we use specific words and context to express timeframes. For example the English verb "eat" can be changed to "ate" for past actions and "eating" for current actions. But in Mandarin "eat" 吃 (chī) can be used for the past, present, and future.
Secondly, No plural, no matter how many pens, we just say 1隻筆, 10隻筆,100隻筆.
Thirdly, No comparative, we use a specific word and sentence pattern to describe comparison, for example, You are taller than me,你比我高。 You are bigger than me, 你比我大, 比 is the simple word to compare something.
Finally, No Object pronoun. For example I give him a pen 我給他一隻筆(wǒ gěi tā yī zhī bǐ ), He gives me a pen他給我一支筆(tā gěi wǒ yī zhī bǐ ), 我給他(wǒ gěi tā)、他給我 (tā gěi wǒ )we never change the word no matter which position they are. So if you learn deeply you’ll find out more.
Before start teaching, I’ll make sure which level you are? Are you a beginner, intermediate or advanced? And figure out what is your purpose to learn Mandarin? I would choose the materials for you. Or you tell me what do you want to learn and discuss in the class?
During the class, I’ll use drawing, picture, gesture as well as typing to make you easily understand what I am talking about and correcting your pronunciation.
Before the end of the class, I’ll give you a class quiz and review what we learned today. And practice more after class. practice makes perfect.
In addition, if you don’t like the topics in material or my speed is not suitable to you.please, don’t feel hesitate and just let me know right away.
The above is my introduction, welcome to my class learning mandarin together, I hope to see you soon.bye~~
I can help you gain confidence in your pronunciation. I’ll use drawing to make you easily understand how to pronounce for each word and how to distinguish different tones represent different meaning.
According to your level, providing you an individual lesson, I can help you gain confidence in the class step by step.
My teaching style
1. Explaining the meaning of the word
A combination of a representation of the character and the story inside it.
2.Showing the strokes, step by step.
We can’t omit this even though you are going to type them in the future, this step will help you remember the word efficiently. The main difference is you don’t need to write a word thousands of times.
3.Expanding the word
Using the character’s components to learn even more words.
4.From word to vocabulary to sentence
Combining the words to learn new vocabulary and make sentences in just one class.
Some students told me, it seems easier to learn with simplified characters. The truth about simplified characters is that they are easier to write than traditional characters because traditional characters have loads more information. That’s why they seem a lot harder to write but easy to remember. In this program, I’ll teach you traditional first, if you want to know simplified, I’ll also teach you simplified quickly and easily.
Everyone has an incredible imagination inside their head, why don’t you express it. I will help you gain your confidence again.
