I am a native Cantonese speaker and hold a Mandarin Proficiency Certificate at Grade 2, Level A. I received my Bachelor's degree in English from South China Normal University and my Master's degree in Teaching Chinese as an International Language from The University of Hong Kong, where I received systematic training in Chinese phonetics and second-language speech acquisition. I am able to use either English or Mandarin as the medium of instruction in my teaching. I have a thorough command of Mandarin initials, finals, and tones, as well as the Cantonese nine-tone-six-pitch system and the complete Jyutping romanisation system. From a linguistic perspective, I am skilled at analysing the root causes of pronunciation difficulties and providing precise correction for common issues such as lazy sounds, tonal errors, checked syllables, and articulation deviations. I have been teaching Chinese in non-Chinese-speaking primary schools in Hong Kong, which has given me deep insight into the local educational context and student profiles.
