I teach Turkish adult- children as well. It can be harder to get their attention but I managed that! I used a lot of pictures while teaching vocabulary to them and for the grammar, I use open-ended tasks.
I still teach Turkish Literature and I use textbooks usually. My students want to learn it because of their exams and I arrange my teaching still for their exam style. For example, I give them activities and texts with a time period (usually 15-30 min) for paragraph questions, and I give an example from a poem and want them to guess the poet.
I gave lessons to immigrants in Istanbul. They were all beginners and age between 6-25. I started to teach using only Turkish and English. I used a mixed syllabus and started with teaching simple greetings, numbers and Basic phrases in daily life situations. While I was working in KIM Organization in Istanbul, I gave speaking clubs for people from different countries. I used a lot of game for this class such as finding a word from a letter, pretending ordering food or making up stories.
