As you can see on the profile. Taishi-sensei had prepared many interesting readings as materials for the class - which is very helpful for advanced learners. He also pays a lot of attention to my speaking or writing, and immediately helps correct where I go wrong. He also explains very well about the nuances of different expressions. I think this is very useful for one person to go from "being able to speak Japanese" to "being able to communicate eloquently and correctly in Japanese".

I really enjoyed class with Taishi. He’s really good at English and it was comfortable talking to him. I have no experience with Japanese but he took the time to explain to me parts that I didn’t understand. Definitely booking another class.

TRIAL CLASS , I would like to thank Mayu sensei for being cool and patient despite the fact that my son is playing a funny music in the background. Above all that, I'm thankful for the materials she shared during the class lesson, she really knows how to teach you! I'm honestly happy even if it's just a trial lesson because I am able to already introduce myself properly in Japanese language. I look forward to learn more from her when I book a session in the future.

Great personality, and awesome beginner tutor. Our first session involved playing a mini-game to gauge my level of Japanese understanding and went on asking about my personal interests. I enjoyed the casual and structured atmosphere. Thank you Aya-sensei!

Mika sensei has provided listening exercise for my to practice during the lesson. As my weakness in Japanese studying is the listening part, I am looking for a sensei who can help me to improve my listening ability. I believe Mika sensei is the right sensei! Also, Mika sensei was able to listen to my pronunciation patiently and point out my mistakes timely. Having a good pronunciation is important for me to be a fluent Japanese speaker in the future. Thank you for your teaching !!

I was looking for a good tutor for my 5-year-old twins to learn conversational Japanese. We live in the US and appreciated that Momo-sensei stayed up late to tutor my kids. She was patient and she tried different techniques for learning. She would send me emails ahead of schedule to let me know what she wanted to cover that week and she also would interact with them by printing different pictures, reading pre-school books and a lot of Q&A. My kids are so much better than they used to be. They could only answer in one word answers before, but now can speak in sentences in a short 3-4 month period. I highly recommend Momo as a competent educator.

My first trial session with Arisa-san went very well. She is very friendly and relaxed. As a beginner, I also enjoyed that when we spoke in Japanese, she would notice opportunities to teach me something new by correcting small mistakes. I look forward to working with her more in the future!

The lesson is productive as usual, well-organised and smartly divided to some parts from warming up small talk, article reading (very interesting Japanese culture related topic but with certain difficulty so covering some grammar for learning and practicing), and helping our with my confusing towards some sentence structure in current news article.

Thank you so much Kei Sensei!! Sensei is super detail-oriented and sharp to listening. She caught that I was trying to pronounce sentences using the English spelling, and she told me to focus on her listening instead of looking at the textbook and I was able to improve! She also shared things about Japanese culture and that was very interesting. Looking forward to the next lesson!!

Good first lesson! Saori is really friendly and easy to talk to she can speak English well and that helps when trying to learn Japanese! The first lesson was more relaxed and focused on introductions but we did go through some of the Hiragana table

Q3. How do I choose my tutor?
If you have a clear idea of your criteria for choosing a tutor - such as any specific learning objectives, target cost for tutoring, etc. - you can use the search function to quickly find a tutor who suits your needs, and select “book trial” to set up your first online lesson.
If you don't have time to find a tutor or aren't sure where to start, we can help with recommendations. Try using our tutor recommendation tool here, which will provide you with tutor matches according to your selected needs.
Q4. What's the right learning environment for me? Should I choose a tutor who is a native speaker?
One of the best ways to learn is to immerse yourself in an environment where you try to use only .
However, if you do not currently have a solid base in spelling and/or vocabulary, we recommend you choose a bilingual tutor who speaks your target language and your native language, as you will likely have a better learning experience during your one-on-one private tutoring.
If you have a good range of vocabulary but lack the opportunity to practice, then we recommend you choose a native tutor.
Q5. Learn in the US - how do I find a local or online tutor?
You're in the right place. We have local tutors serving New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose and most other areas nationwide, as well as numerous tutors based internationally.
Q6. How much will my online class cost?
All tutoring fees are set by the tutors themselves, and not by AT. Most of our tutors charge USD$10-30 per hour.
You can also get matched with suitable tutors who fit a specific budget. If the tutor’s fees work for you, you can buy a lesson package from them or start with a “trial lesson.”
Q7. How do I pay for my lessons?
You can pay with PayPal or credit card (American Express, Mastercard, or Visa). For certain international markets (e.g. Taiwan), we also accept local methods of payment, such as payment via ATM or convenience store.
Q8. How many lessons should I purchase?
If you have a short term goal, we recommend you purchase enough lessons that you can take classes consistently within your timeframe. If you need significant improvement to reach your goal, we recommend you an adequate number of lessons, and get into the habit of regular weekly learning! The more you put in, the more you get out of it!
Q9. What if I have more questions?
