What Will I Learn?

After completing the course you will be prepared for the Speaking paper of the IELTS


For students who aim to achieve a Band Score of 6.5 or higher in the IELTS Academic. Specifically, this programme is for you if: you intend to study for a postgraduate degree that requires an IELTS band score of more than 6.0; you intend to study overseas at a university that require an IELTS entrance band score of at least 6.5; you need an IELTS ban score higher than a current band score of 6.0. This course will give you lots of speaking time to improve accuracy, fluency, vocabulary and will familiarise you with all stages of the IELTS speaking test and the most common topics. The course will provide strategies for dealing with the different stages of the IELTS Speaking: • Introductory section • Part 1 - Introduction and interview • Part 2 - Long turn • Part 3 - Discussion The course will explain the Assessment Criteria for the Speaking paper: Fluency and Coherence; Lexical Resource; Grammatical Range and Accuracy; Pronunciation; and how understanding these can help improve your score. To achieve a Band Score of 6.5 or higher you will need to use a high level of vocabulary. You will expand your vocabulary range in the topics that often come up in the speaking paper: • Work • Media & Communication • Education • Fashion • Environment • Family • Culture and Traditions • Eating and Food • Travel and Tourism • Sport

What will students need to know or do before starting this course?

  • Read as much and as often as you can in English. You do not need to read long novels or read Shakespeare!
  • Read what interests you. Read magazines or read stories on the internet.
  • Read what you like but read something every day if possible.Keep a vocabulary notebook – I will advise you about this.
