The student will be able to engage in a meaningful conversation using the lessons in this course.
This course is designed for students seeking to speak fluently in English. The student will focus on all four language skills: speaking, reading, writing and listening. Students will focus on specific and meaningful conversations through dialogue, reading, listening vocabulary building, and open ended discussion. All sessions will enhance confidence in speaking English using correct pronunciation and vocabulary building. During the course a variety of opportunities will be presented using a friendly yet provocative approach to develop conversations with idiomatic expressions that have a figurative meaning, and subjective areas of speech, such as style, level of formality, and a communicative approach. Additionally, this course will explore and expose students to a variety of conversational and engaging topics that frequently occur in an English environment, such as the workplace, banking, medical environment, restaurant, travel, post office, employment opportunities, and casual conversations. To encourage and facilitate solid understanding of the lesson, topics may include sales conversations, manager to employee conversations, meeting conversations, negotiation conversations, conversations bordering on dealing with arguments, inappropriate behavior, criticism, encouragement, human resources, interview techniques and empowering discussions. In the same fashion that a native English speaker learns, students will learn transitional phrases, and phrasal verbs, along with strategies for dealing with difficult and controversial topics. Tips and techniques will be discussed to manage difficult people in a professional manner while embarking upon opportunities to build a solid vocabulary, speak clearly and fluently in American English. Students will also experience an opportunity to be on both sides of a conversation.
