Hi! I'm Sarah-Jane, a qualified, International School Teacher and Social Worker from London, England. I received my teaching degree in 2005 from Surrey University, and my CELTA qualification in 2012. I have a Bachelors degree in Sociology, a Masters degree in Social Work, and a Masters in Special and Inclusive Education. I am a UCL graduate.
Teaching is my passion; it's what I enjoy doing both in and out of the classroom. When I am not teaching, I love listening to music, watching sports -baseball, basketball, American football, athletics and tennis, riding my bike, travelling to different countries to experience the culture, reading Manga and watching anime.
I have been teaching for almost two decades and am both PGCE (QTS) and CELTA qualified. I have worked internationally - China, USA, Caribbean and UAE, thus can appreciate some of the challenges that non-native English speakers face when learning English. I employ a range of methodologies to support language acquisition and mastery such as pronunciation drills, games, direct questioning, writing and speaking scaffolds, role play, listening exercises, error correction and gap fills.
I have successfully prepared students for GCSEs and A-Levels in Humanities subjects, and have supported students with preparation for IELTS and other college/university entrance exams. . I have successfully prepared candidates for successful PGCE, University, College and international schools interviews, in addition to job interviews.
I gain a lot of satisfaction witnessing firsthand the personal and academic growth of those whom with I engage. I also think it's important that my students leave the lesson feeling that they have learned something.
My lessons focus on the four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking - with the emphasis on speaking as its important that my students feel comfortable communicating. I correct pronunciation in a timely fashion, extend learning by supporting vocabulary development and use comprehension tasks to check my tutees understanding.

💫 Conversational English
I have been teaching conversational English for the past decade. Using current affairs, news articles, or other areas of interest. I like to spark conversation to develop my students speaking skills in an informal way, so that they become more confident and sound more like native English speakers. Conversational English helps to develop speaking. listening and comprehension skills. Thus, we will develop language (vocabularies), focus on pronunciation and explore the English which is used every day (colloquial).
💫 English for work

She works in retail and we explore scenarios, engage in role plays and do pronunciation drills for the work-related vocabulary. Using realia and pictures, I have supported her to learn the most relevant vocabularies for her role and have helped her to write and memorise scripts for several scenarios that she has to deal with on a daily basis.
